The nose is intense with aromas of blackcurrant cassis, red fruits, cigar box oak, herbal and savoury tones all in harmony. The palate is full with green but soft tannins layers of fruit, blackcurrants, plums, red cherries, with well-integrated oak. There is spice at the front adding to the complexity and the overall balance of the wine. Enjoy now but will benefit from time in the cellar 5+ years. Stephen Read
Playing catch up with Nero d’Avola from Sicily and Sangiovese from Tuscany, Barbera from Piemonte is the latest ‘go to’ variety from Italian origins. This McLaren Vale example showing blackcurrant, cigar box and plum on the nose, delivers red cherries and spice on the palate. The silky tannins offer some grip on the finish that don’t disappoint. It’s a drink now style that once on the voyage of discovery is worth the journey.
